Young Warriors Dominate Tigers

After continuing their good start to the defence of their Academy title with a win at home to Huddersfield, Wigan U19s hosted Castleford in a match that saw them cruise to a comfortable 44-14 victory.

Wigan raced into an 18-0 lead with three tries inside 10 minutes as Nick Gregson and Kyle Shelford crossed either side of an effort from Jake Shorrocks who converted all three scores. Castleford fought back with a try from Tom Holmes which Ashley Robson converted for 18-6 before Josh Ganson restored the Warriors' 18 point lead with a 38th minute try which Shorrocks converted for a 24-6 lead into the interval.

Ganson scored his second try in the space of eight minutes with a 44th minute effort which Shorrocks converted for 30-6 but Castleford responded with a try seven minutes later from Kieran Gill for 30-10 before Oliver Gildart crossed for Wigan on the hour to make it 34-10.

Gill scored his second try on 65 minutes for 34-14 but from there Wigan wrapped up the win with second tries of the game from Nick Gregson and Oliver Gildart with Jake Shorrocks converting the latter for a 44-14 final score.
